Abstract
A criterion for appraisal of arc-resistance is obtained from analysis of heat action of electrical discharge on insulator surfaces. The criterion is a function of thermo-physical characteristics, and is independent of arc current. Thus it is possible to classify all insulator materials uniquely. The useful thermophysical characteristics are discussed and a table of values of the criterion is given.
