Abstract
Near-transform-limited optical pulses generated using an all-optical gate based on an optical fiber Sagnac loop (a Sagnac loop gate or SLG) have been transmitted round a recirculating fiber loop over distances exceeding 2400 km. After this distance, the pulses have the form of a fundamental soliton superposed on a CW background.<>
