Abstract
Experimental results of heat transfer in a helium-filled disk enclosure (DE) are reported. The windage loss of a DE containing helium was found to be 1/5 that of a DE containing air. The temperature increase of the positioner coil and spatial temperature variations in a helium-filled DE were found to be much smaller than in air. It is concluded that these results are due to the lower specific weight and higher thermal conductivity of helium.<>
