Abstract
In this correspondence it is shown that the Kaiser-Hamming procedure for sharpening the response of a symmetric one-dimensional FIR digital filter and the transformation design method for two-dimensional FIR filters, (originally due to McClellan) are mathematically equivalent. The different viewpoints concerning this common idea suggest generalizations to both approaches.
