Abstract
In this paper, an energy efficient structure for beacon signal transmission is proposed for incumbent wireless microphone protection in a cognitive radio system. The proposed structure consists of two consecutive parts: Synchronization with Index and Synchronization with Payload, transmitted as in-phase and quadrature components respectively. As opposed to the current beacon design, it can achieve more reliable and balanced error protection for the beacon components, while keeping the system complexity low.
