Abstract
Walsh functions can be used to advantage to perform phase switching in antenna arrays used for radio mapping of the sky by Fourier synthesis. This paper describes the reason for phase switching, the advantage of using Walsh functions, and the implementation of these ideas in the Very Large Array (VLA) program of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.1
