Abstract
The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is sponsoring a test of distribution automation. This test aims to demonstrate a system providing a host of automation functions, operating on a scale large enough to provide meaningful projection to utility-wide operation. Beginning in late 1989, the system will be fully operational. During the following year, the system will undergo performance testing. This study reports the knowledge and experience acquired during the design phase. A description of the system which has emerged is provided. Finally, the operating mode and test procedures to be undertaken in the test year are described
