Abstract
A technique is described whereby CO2 lasers can be
-switched to provide high-frequency-output pulse repetition rates. The method is based on the use of a rotating transparent plate within the optical cavity of the laser to vary the optical path length between the mirrors. Measurements show that with an NaCl plate, pulse repetition rates in excess of 200 kHz can be achieved. Pulse widths are typically a few hundred nanoseconds. Maximum repetition rates and peak power output depend on the specific discharge parameters.
