Abstract
A clock extraction technique based on using the equaliser tap settings to provide feedback of the timing position is proposed for modems. It is shown how the necessary fine adjustment of the clock phase can be achieved with discretely varied timing clocks. The clock extractor is particularly appropriate for distorted channels, requires little processing and is suitable for fast-train operation
