Abstract
Historically, isolation devices used optical, capacitive, or transformer techniques. Each of these methods has disadvantages that burden the design when providing isolation within an electrical system. The author summarizes several isolation methods and introduces the iCoupler technology. The iCoupler technology is a new, chip-scale transformer technology that minimizes the design burdens associated with the use of isolation.
