Proposed Revisions of Routine Dielectric Tests of Distribution Transformers

The Working Group on Revision of Dielectric Tests on Distribution Transformers of the IEEE Transformers Committee is studying proposals for revisions of requirements for routine dielectric tests of this apparatus. One proposal is to require a routine impulse test of high-voltage windings. The second proposal, contingent with acceptance of the impulse test, is a reduction of applied voltage test levels of most ratings so they are more realistic in comparison to typical system overvoltages at operating frequency.
