Abstract
There are a number of techniques available to the electric utility industry for forecasting load management activities. These techniques have not, until now, been well documented, nor has their use been fully explored. This paper is an essential first step in this emerging new technology in that it attempts to identify and describe classical forecasting techniques and suggests categories of load management activities which may be forecasted using those techniques. The paper first describes the issues of customer acceptance, defines generically load management options, describes state-of-the-art techniques and finally discusses the application of those techniques to forecasting load management.
