Abstract
Achievable generator reactive capability (GRC) is generally much less than indicated by manufacturers´ reactive capability curves, due to constraints imposed by plant auxiliaries and the power system itself. The nature of these constraints is explained and a method for calculating them is provided and verified by field tests on a unit at high and low power system voltage levels. Several recommendations are made to enhance the GRC of the tested unit
