Abstract
Full-scale experiments were conducted on ten designs of terminator diffusion chambers for forced convectively cooled, high-pressure, oil-filled (HPOF), underground, pipe-type cable systems. Both hydrodynamic and thermal characteristics were determined in the entrance and exit flow mode. Pressure drop results were correlated in terms of the pressure loss coefficient as a function of the Reynolds number in the feed pipe. The heat transfer results were correlated in terms of the Nusselt number, based on cable diameter, as a function of both the same Reynolds number and the axial distance from the inlet.
