  • Abstract
The induced magnetic flux density B from a high-voltage high-power electrical equipment such as an aircore reactor is calculated as a function of distance from, axial length, diameter, height above the ground and number of ampere-turns of the equipment. Rigorous and approximate formulas have been developed for calculating B. Guidelines for using the approximate formulas with regard to their applicability to calculate the induced magnetic flux density with varying levels of accuracy are given. The induced voltage arising from the magnetic induction on a polymer plexiglass sheet placed in close proximity to an air-core power reactor is calculated and found to be in the millivolt range. The magnetically induced voltage on the polymer sheet is considerably smaller than the electrostatically induced voltage from the same electrical power equipment. The magnetically induced current density is calculated in a plexiglass sheet, in a metal alloy sheet and in a human body situated close to an energized air-core reactor.
