  • Abstract
A numerical solution to the interaction between electromagnetic wave and electronic equipment is presented. Specifically, the edge based-finite element method is combined with the asymptotic expansion of the scattered wave to produce a system of linear equations for evaluating the fields of the equipment. The validity and efficiency of the solution is demonstrated by comparing computed results with published data. An advantage of this solution is that it uses the edge elements which usually do not produce spurious modes. Also, the system matrix obtained is sparse (or banded) and symmetric. Further, the solution can be obtained directly without the need for repeated solution of the interior problem. i.e., computing the fields in the inhomogeneous bounded domain, for different Dirichlet boundary conditions
