Abstract
Methods of simulating the effects of specified input power and load on the losses of synchronous machines operating unloaded are discussed. Factory test procedures for simulating thermal effects present in the machine during the specified real power exchange without the need to exchange such power are described. These procedures, based on the equivalent loss energy principle, were found suitable by the authors to simulate with remarkable accuracy the stabilized local temperatures of major parts of synchronous machines measured under actual load conditions.
