Abstract
The predetermination of the behavior of a three-phase chopper is a complex problem which has hitherto defied analytic closed-form solution. Such a solution is described here which, despite the analytical complexity, has a relatively simple final form. The problem is greatly simplified by the use of matrix algebra, and expressions are given for all the principal quantities, load current, phase current, input current, etc. The coefficients of these expressions are defined so that the solution is reduced to a relatively easy set of calculations. The technique is easily applied to the much simpler problem presented by the biphase chopper.
