Abstract
Using laminated heads which have some displacement between both half cores, the write fringing and the off-track characteristics were measured. The recorded patterns were observed by Bitter method. In laminated heads, the configuration at the head track edge on the rubbing surface depends on the displacement direction. In some range of recording currents, the off-track characteristics of the head depend on this edge configuration. At surplus recording currents, the signal was recorded at the track edge of the trailing side, and the maximum output position was shifted in the off-track characteristics. The off-track characteristics depend on the magnetic tapes too. The width of recorded tracks become wider with the increase of the signal´s wavelength
