Abstract
Many high-horsepower drive trains have experienced premature failures with extremely expensive downtime. Simple repair/replacement actions taken frequently lead to repeat failures within even shorter periods. Many of the system characterizations which lead to these failures are shown to be identifiable by a thorough analysis during the design phase. A side-by-side comparison of characteristics of the initial and final designs is given.
