  • Abstract
This paper deals with analyses of magnetic flux control characteristics of magnetic fluids by means of an orthogonal magnetic field. The Langevin function, which we use as the theoretical equation, is expressed as a resultant field of a magnetizing field and a static control field, and can be obtained as vertical and horizontal vector components. We derived an equation which expresses vertical magnetic flux density and a theoretical value of the magnetic flux control characteristics could be obtained using the Langevin function. Furthermore, based on the Nagaoka coefficient, the scope of application in vessel design could be clarified by comparing the theoretical value with the experimental value. The results can be used for designing the variable inductor using magnetic fluid
