  • Abstract
The performance of a permanent magnet (PM) motor is predicted by using both analytical and numerical methods. From the simple analytical calculations, the initial machine dimensions for more accurate numerical analysis can be obtained easily. The resulting expressions can also be used for calculating different machine parameters, such as direct and quadrature axis reactances or generated voltage. The numerical calculations are performed by the finite element method. The field equation and the circuit equations of the winding are combined and solved together. By utilizing the procedure presented, the performance of a designed PM motor can be predicted with good accuracy
