Abstract
Managers must use processes that balance efficient development methods with individual needs and talents. There are certain practices that are necessary, but they will be ignored by well-motivated software engineers and used to waste time by ill-motivated ones if they be merely imposed by fiat. The article discusses how engineers can be brought to embrace them by being persuaded of their usefulness.
