  • Abstract
    From the electron energy equation, a simple criterion is derived for the estimation of the radius of the filaments occurring in discharges in noble gas magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) generators. Assuming electron temperatures between 4000 and 6000 K, a typical radius of 0.1 mm is calculated in agreement with the experimental observation.
