Abstract
In order to predict the attenuation and bandwidth of a graded index (GRIN) multimode fiber system accurately, the fiber composing the system is best characterized by a restricted launch attenuation measurement and an over-filled-launch (OFL) bandwidth measurement of the fibers. The rationale for these launches is provided in terms of the power evolution in the fiber and its impact on system performance, and the basic physics of GRIN multimode fiber. Experimental results are shown that demonstrate the results
