Abstract
Thermal level Thomson scattering of a pulsed 70 MW C02 laser from a hydrogen arc plasma (¿e = 1015 - 1016 cm-3, Te ¿ Ti ¿ 5 eV) has been observed using video detection. Spectral resolution of the ion feature has been achieved thus demonstrating the feasibility of this method for determining ion temperatures in a wide variety of laboratory and fusion plasmas.
