  • Abstract
Presents details of how group project management and very large scale integration (VLSI) design may be linked at an early stage in an undergraduate course. The situation of a student working in an engineering group taking account of both customer requirements and management constraints provides a novel setting for the teaching of VLSI. It leads naturally to the development of individual skills, confidence, responsibility and understanding, which are essential for the successful exploitation of chip technology. The results obtained from the first cohort of students to pass through the VLSI group design project are discussed
