Abstract
Priority queues are one of the fundamental tools to analyze aguiar the performance of communications and computer networks, and scheduling in computing systems. Although priority queues have been analyzed for more than 5 decades, their treatment in the literature usually requires a significant background. In this paper, we present a novel methodology to derive closed form solutions for the mean number of users in a queue with priorities. The methodology is significantly simpler than the other ones found in literature, and, we believe, brings novel insights about the system.
