  • Abstract
Welcome to the first-ever "theme" section of the new EMC Society Magazine! It was an honor to be asked by Janet O\´Neil to be a part of the inauguration of this new magazine with a special emphasis on the new advances in "Transportation Systems EMC." For those of you that attended the 2011 IEEE International Symposium on EMC in Long Beach, you may have attended the first workshop sponsored by the IEEE EMC-S Special Committee on Transportation System EMC (SC3), (or as I like to call it, the "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Committee"). The purpose of SC3 is to focus on the developments and successful practices being used today (and planned for tomorrow) in transportation systems EMC. Today, the transportation industry is undergoing significant evolutionary changes (bordering on revolutionary changes) due to the demands of improving transportation system energy efficiency, reducing costs, and yet providing a high level of customer satisfaction even with more complicated electronic systems.
