Transportation Electrified [From the Editor]

As I write these words, the events that occurred in Japan are occupying the world´s attention. Our sympathies go out to the people of Japan who are enduring the results of the catastrophic earthquake, tsunami, and subsequent failures at the Tokyo Electric Company´s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Facility. It is with a sense of irony that the March issue of IEEE Power and Energy Magazine, lying next to me at the time of this writing, had been themed to look at power systems in natural disasters.
