Abstract
The author describes how the traditional electric utility environment could become a thing of the past as the industry restructures. The former order of the vertical utility (generation, transmission, and distribution all under the umbrella of a single organization) may go away to be replaced by a series of independently operating units with a more horizontal relationship. He examines the impact effects of electric industry deregulation on metering, billing, and customer information systems
