Abstract
A new class of wire antennas called meander antennas is introduced as possible elements for size reduction. Efficiency is affected only by the ohmic losses in the wire, and cross polarization is negligible. An increase in the number of meander sections introduces less size reduction in return for an improved bandwidth. These antennas can be used to reduce the size of existing wire antennas such as Yagi-Uda antennas and log-periodic dipole arrays. A size reduction in the resonant length typically from 25-40% is obtained. More size reduction is obtained by decreasing the radius of the wire or increasing the separation of the folded arms
