A Decision of Which I Am Still Proud

On 8 December 2009, Emilio Gatti and I celebrated the 50 years of scientific cooperation and a very nice friendship. Everything began when I was a student of physics at the University of Rome. At the beginning of 1959, I was working on a coincidence spectrometer for nuclear physics, the subject of my thesis. It became clear to me that I would have never been a good physicist without a sound background in instrumentation techniques.
