Abstract
The NGH Subsynchronous Resonance (SSR) Damping Scheme designed to damp subsynchronous currents in the transmission lines and to protect the generating machines from subsynchronous resonance was installed at Southern California Edison´s Lugo Substation in June 1984. The SSR damping scheme was developed by SCE, EPRI, and seven other southwest utilities as solution to the SSR problem at Mohave and other generating stations in the southwest. The NGH Scheme has been in operation for about two years and has been operating satisfactorily. The paper describes the NGH Scheme installation and its operating experience at SCE´s Lugo Substation.
