Abstract
When a standby generator set is called on to take over the mains supply, it will probably have to restart motors that have decelerated or stopped during the 10¿15 s the standby set takes to run up. But standby sets have higher impedances than the mains, so how do you decide on an economically sized generator, of standard build, compatible with an acceptable voltage dip during starting?
