  • Abstract
This paper presents a fuzzy damping control design for damping swing mode in a power system model using global stabilizing signals. The controller supplements the STATCOM installed in the power system for voltage regulation and dynamic voltage control. The selection of the input signal for the proposed controller from the available global signal is based on modal analysis of the selected power system by employing eigenvalue sensitivity analysis and the output of the controller provides reference for the voltage controller of the STATCOM. The proposed optimal fuzzy supplementary controller is synthesized on mixed sensitivity formulation resolved by linear matrix inequality enhances the angular stability of the power system at multiple operating points. The performance of the proposed controller is compared against robust control scheme based on Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) on a 11-bus four machine system.
