Abstract
We experimentally demonstrated the simultaneous transmission of a 2.5 Gb/s packet-switched payload data and an 80 Mb/s control channel using the multichannel subcarrier multiplexing (MSCM) signaling scheme. A 32.3-dB optical power budget was obtained by using a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) as a preamplifier. We optimized the subcarrier modulation depth at the transmitter and the tapping ratio at the receiver. The tradeoffs between different SOA-preamplified receiver configurations were investigated.
