Abstract
This book provides a useful and compact introduction to the fundamentals of discrete-time low-pass filters. Historically, the analysis of continuous linear systems evolved from analytical methods to transform methods to analog simulation and finally to digital simulation and digital computation. The proper definition of low-pass digital filters enables one to discard most impulse-response techniques. Several calculator programs have been included as an aid to the designer of discrete-time systems, thereby obviating the necessity of a large-scale digital computer. Discrete-time systems find applications not only in frequency-selective filtering — they can also be readily extended to such disciplines as biology, medicine, geophysics, acoustics, etc.
