Abstract
FeCo alloy nanofibres with an average diameter of around 150 nm were fabricated via the electrospinning technique using cobalt nitrate hexahydrate and ferric nitrate nonahydrate as precursors, polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as the fibre template. After being calcined at 600°C, the electrospun composite fibres became continuous crystallites as a result of the complete decomposition of PVP. The magnetic properties of the samples were characterised by vibrating sample magnetometer. Room temperature magnetisation results showed a ferromagnetic behaviour of the calcined FeCo nanofibres, which exhibit greatly enhanced coercivities compared with the bulk FeCo alloy materials.
