Abstract
Collisions caused by hidden terminals can be one threaten to performance of contention based wireless MACs, especially in saturation condition. Polling based MACs suffer from low efficiency under low channel traffic load. This work presents a novel adaptive scheme for wireless MAC, which contends for channel in low traffic case, and switches dynamically to polling while traffic load becomes high. By mitigating collisions caused by hidden terminals for the same sender, the proposed scheme improves throughput of wireless network in saturated condition without affecting efficiency of channel while traffic load is low. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol outperforms static protocols in both low and high loaded cases.
