Abstract
The total consumption of energy in the United States in the year 1980 is expected to be equivalent to 93 Ã 1018 joules or 63 percent greater than in 1965. Coal consumption in 1980 is projected at 612-677 million tonnes, natural gas at 696 000 million cubic meters, and petroleum products demand at 899 million tonnes. Nuclear power generation will be 723 million MWh; conventional fuel-burning plants will provide up to 1941 million MWh of energy.
