Abstract
In this letter, the relationship between spectrum sensing time and access delay is analyzed for a IEEE 802.11-like MAC of a cognitive radio network in which RTS-CTS exchange scheme is used by secondary users. The optimal spectrum sensing time and channel access probability are derived to minimize the access delay which is the summation of spectrum sensing time and contention delay.
