Abstract
The design of a three-phase sinusoidal output electrooptic resolver is presented. This resolver utilizes polarized films to provide variable attenuation of a light source. It generates a sinusoidal output voltage which is a function of the angular position of its shaft. A prototype of the sensor has been constructed and tested. It can be used to control an inverter to drive a permanent magnet synchronous machine. Uses include electric cars, industrial machine drives, and controllers for wind turbine systems
