Abstract
More than a factor of three increase in overall personal communication system (PCS) capacity can be achieved in small handheld communication devices with limited battery power or in small low-complexity base stations when incorporating simple interference cancellation techniques without training sequences in the channel-access algorithm that realizes macroscopic selection diversity based on signal quality measurement. The comparison is done with respect to microscopic selection diversity and macroscopic selection diversity based on channel power measurement. Results were obtained by computer simulations
