Abstract
This paper discusses the ordering policies, in which a delivered spare is put into inventory until a prespecified time if an original unit is still operating. Under certain conditions there exists a finite and unique optimum policy maximizing the cost effectiveness, which balances the system effectiveness and the cost and is defined as [s-availabilityl]/[s-expected cost rate].
