  • Abstract
This paper addresses the selection and qualification of helicopter firms for various types of maintenance on overhead lines. The paper is not intended to provide specific recommendations pertaining to the use of helicopters for construction of lines. The paper also includes a number of sample questionnaires that may be used to assist utilities in the preparation and implementation of helicopter contracts for the following tasks. Patrol, inspection, and transportation; line maintenance (i.e., component repairs, modifications, securing, or replacement). The guide may also be used to periodically review the quality of standards for existing airborne contractors. Therefore this paper provides guidance on items they need to consider when selecting a helicopter contractor for the purpose of performing line work on or near overhead lines including patrols. This guide includes four parts: contractor qualifications; helicopter contractor expression of interest (example); utility company helicopter contractor inspection checklist (example); and pre-trip inspection report (example)
