Abstract
Demand Side Management is an integral constituent of operational planning for an electric utility. A particular DSM programme activity is designed to encourage customers of different sectors of power utilization to modify their electricity usage patterns, timing and level of electricity demand. Buildings, both commercial and residential, industries, municipal, appliances etc are some of the sectors targeted for implementing DSM. A very important part of any designed DSM programme is its planning and implementation strategy. This paper introduces the approach and concept for DSM in India. A comprehensive methodology for implementing a DSM programme in India has been outlined. Detailed step wise action plan formulated for planning and implementing of a DSM programme in India is presented.
