Abstract
If, a few decades ago, the electronics engineer and the power engineer were little interested in one another´s problems, and saw little need to be, such is hardly the case today. We pointed out in this column in February that all of IEEE´s members have a vested interest in power just by virtue of being consumers. Beyond that, we noted, those areas of electrotechnology representing an overlap between the electrical and electronics arts are consistently growing. And the computer is dominant in this growth. Indeed, if there is to be a remarriage of electronics and power, the computer will probably be the matchmaker.
