Abstract
Recently, Tan et al. [see Comput. Commun., vol. 18, p. 390-3, 1999] proposed an efficient smart card-oriented remote login authentication scheme. The scheme has several merits: (i) the user can freely choose his password: (ii) no verification tables are required, and (iii) the computation overhead is low. However, the authors show the insecurity of Tan-Zhu´s scheme
