Abstract
A multifunction relay that uses advanced digital electronic design to incorporate most (or all) of the required protection functions into one package and thereby significantly reduce the expense is described. User requirements and design considerations are examined. The discrete-Fourier-transform-based digital signal processor is discussed. Interprocessor communication and the host processor are briefly considered.<>
